Hello! And here's the first actual installment of our trip blog.
Despite the universe (and one overeager Nebraska attorney) conspiring to keep Handler 1 at her job way past the time set aside for leaving, we managed to get out of the city of Detroit before 5p.m. Heading quickly across the mitten state, we exited into the great(?) state of Indiana and got off at the famous Valparaiso exit.
As everyone who's traveled by car to Chicago from Michigan knows, you have to get off at the Valparaiso exit. If you don't you'll have your choice of filling up your gas in Gary, Indiana or the South Side of Chicago. To give you an idea of what those choices are like, Gary is responsible for the majory of the Crosses or Porn points at right, and the other is the South Side of Chicago.
Soon thereafter we entered Illinois, otherwise known as the state of unending road construction. Some 120 miles, and greater than 3 hours, later, we finally made it into Wisconsin and found our hotel just outside Madison. All in all, it was a pretty uneventful trip, with only one minor mishap in Chicago where a semi blocked our view of the road signs and got us off on the wrong freeway. All was put right, quickly, though, and not much time was lost...well, no more than would have been lost in the Land of Lincoln and Construction Barrels in any case.
Next up, we're hoping to have breakfast with an old friend, meet some vikings (or at least a green giant) and see the world's most incongruous monument to corn products.
Quote of the Day:
